Getting worried in Antarctica

This is the one time in Antarctica I got really worried. The wind had picked up and was pushing the ice towards the ship and had we stayed where we were we would have been trapped between it and the shore.
You can see how much of the ice is below the water.  I had gone there with Hurtigruten in a modern, 5 star ice strengthened ship but the captain decided we had to get out of the Weddell Sea PDQ. It brings home to you how frail we really are as a species when nature decides to take over.

Iceburgs in the Weddell Sea

You forget how much of an iceberg is actually under the water.  I took these from the deck in front of the observation lounge at about 5.30 in the morning. It had snowed during the night and the ship had a layer about two inches deep. The Argentinians on board were very excited and made snowmen! Have a great day now wherever you are.
