Zegrahm offers Whale sharks in Mozambique

In March of 2012, Zegrahm Expeditions will celebrate a first as they visit the coast of East Africa on an inaugural tour! This Mozambique Odyssey visits Tanzania and South Africa aboard the spacious 110-passenger Clipper Odyssey.

The World Wildlife Fund is partnering with Zegrahm Expeditions on this exceptional journey to southeastern Africa; but did you know that WWF co-created and expanded Quirimbas National Park, now the largest marine protected area in the Indian Ocean and Africa? Quirimbas was once the poorest province in Mozambique but now has the country’s highest growth rate thanks to the park.

WWF’s involvement ensures that local communities and park authorities alike share both the benefits and the responsibilities of managing the park on land and at sea. Join this expedition and you’ll see just how much support is needed—the park protects over 750,000 hectares of coastal forest, mangroves, and rich coral reefs including the abundant marine life, sea turtles, and hundreds of fish species.

In the middle of Zegrahm’s journey, cruise to the beautiful beaches of Punta da Barra, where we’ll have the opportunity to see whale sharks; this location is one of the best whale shark viewing places in the world? They are present year-round in this area, and there’s a good chance you will also see manta and devil rays, loggerhead and green sea turtles, and even bottlenose dolphins. Snorkel and swim with this incredible marine life sharing the water with you.

Exodus new Polar Exepdition Cruises

Spitsbergen Explorer: 12 days (11 days ship-only) from £3,120 including flights. Next departure dates are 1 July and 23 July 2012.
Part of the popular Polar Expeditions brochure is the great exploration of Spitsbergen - home to Polar bears, walrus, Arctic foxes and huge colonies of seabirds. There is 24-hour daylight this far north in the summer and Exodus plans to maximise this from the decks of the 100-berth Vavilov or Ioffe. Easily maneuverable around the ice, these ships are perfect for such adventures and have the added advantage that passengers can be in inflatable Zodiacs in the water at just a few minutes notice – catching a Polar bear and her cubs playing in the ice or perhaps sailing in the same space as a 150 ton whale. Any photographic or wildlife fan should seriously consider these departures which are guided by award-winning photographer and Polar enthusiast Paul Goldstein.

Antarctic Explorer - 15 days (12 days ship-only) from £4,130 land only. Next departure dates are 13 November, 19 November, 29 November 2011, 3, 9, 11, 21. 31 December 2011 and 10, 20, 24, 31 January 2012.
An expedition which will appeal to every naturist, explorer, photographer or ornithologist. This is an adventure that takes passengers to the heart of the Peninsula, exploring the ice wilderness of the South Shetland Islands and the channels of the Antarctic. From towering icebergs to emperor penguins and leopard seals, this trip offers every part of Antarctica that you would want to see. Highlights include Iceberg Alley and Deception Island the 19th century refuge from icebergs and Polar storms.

Journey to the North Pole - 15 days (12 days ship-only) from £14,260 land only. The next departures are 25 June and 6 July 2012
With only one departure a year and only one ship capable of offering this stunning itinerary – reaching the top of the world aboard the ’50 Years of Victory’ – this is a rare and rewarding trip which is worth every penny. Travel to the North Pole and en route, discover polar bears, stunning birdlife and the beautiful city of Helsinki. A trip that combines the raw power of the ship – cutting through ice metres thick – the use of helicopter flights for aerial viewing and Zodiac landings for intimate wildlife encounters, this is an expedition unlike any other.

Whales, Dolphins and Basking Sharks with Noble Caledonian

BOOK BEFORE 28 OCTOBER 2011 AND SAVE £100 PER PERSON
An 8 day expedition cruise to the Isles of Scilly, Ireland and the Channel Islands aboard the MS Island Sky. 7 nights from £2195  18th-25th May 2012.

Join Noble Caledonia for this unusual expedition cruise which will appeal to those who wish to explore our coastal waters, observe the marvellous seabird and marine life and walk across untouched coastal wilderness areas. Although you will set sail with a schedule, it will not be set in stone. The captain and expedition team will keep a flexible approach allowing you the opportunity to fully experience the unexpected, whether it be a sighting of dolphins or any unusual event.

In just eight days you will be able to stroll along the leafy lanes of beautiful Tresco in the Isles of Scilly, visit the neighbouring islands of Bryher and St Agnes, land on uninhabited Great Saltee Island with its huge colony of gannets and explore the bird colonies of little known Les Sept Iles by Zodiac. On Lundy Island you will enjoy the antics of the puffins and later in the day sail around Grassholm, one of the world’s largest gannetries. No coastal cruise in this region would be complete without a visit to the Channel Islands and you begin your island adventure with calls at two of the most attractive, Alderney and Sark.

Your exploration of these protected coastal waters will be made all the more enjoyable by the use of our Zodiac landing craft, similar to those used by Jacques Cousteau. Zodiacs enable us to land in remote places, providing for an unusual perspective and make the otherwise inaccessible readily available. The expedition staff have a wealth of local knowledge, having undertaken numerous expeditions around Britain and Ireland. The experienced team will go ashore with you and provide evening round-ups of the day’s events and briefings on board.

eWaterways Reveal Croatia Cruises in the Buff!!!

eWaterways the niche and river cruise specialists have just revealed the launch of four naturist cruises taking place in Croatia in 2012 on a small fleet of delightful motor sailing ships. Croatia as a holiday destination is hot, hot, hot right now with a booming tourist trade and a reputation for being a good value Mediterranean holiday. Island hopping cruises along the stunning Adriatic coastline remain the most popular way to experience Croatia’s diverse landscape but for travellers keen to add an exciting twist to their holiday, this is just the ticket!
There are two different itineraries for the naturist cruises, both of which offer plenty of opportunities for guests to be as nature intended while on-board with clothes only required when in port and during meal times.
The Kvarner Bay Island Hopping Naturist Cruise offers a round trip from Opatija where liberal holidaymakers can enjoy day trips to tranquil islands and secluded beaches for snorkelling, swimming or sunbathing – perfect for working on that line free tan! In the evenings, guests can join the crowd and explore inland dining options and enjoy tours of the picturesque towns and villages.
The nude cruise includes a stopover at Krk, the Adriatic’s largest island and visits to other picturesque islands such as Rab ‘the island of love’, Zadar and Losinj. An ideal choice for the free-spirited and adventurous, this holiday promises to invigorate the senses, relax the mind and release those inhibitions!
The 8-day cruise departs on the 16th June and 25th August 2012 with prices starting at £465 per person on a half-board basis (including taxes). Flights, transfers and optional tours are not included but can be arranged by eWaterways.
The Dalmatian Island Hopping Naturist Cruise starts and ends in Split offering a true ‘back to nature’ experience for cruisers in the calm clear Adriatic waters off Croatia’s stunning coastline. This cruise can be as action-packed or as laid back as desired with skinny dipping on the daily agenda and the option of snorkelling, cave exploring, hiking or even white water rafting on the Cetina River available – all of which can of course be enjoyed in one’s birthday suit!
Departing from Dalmatia’s capital Split, the cruise ship travels to at least two islands per day including the beautiful islands of Korcula, Lastovo, Komiza and Starigrad. In contrast to the majority of multi-destination holidays this is one trip for which packing lightly couldn’t be any easier!
The cruise lasts for 8 days and departs on the 9 June 2012 and 18 August 2012 with prices starting at £389 per person on a half-board basis (including taxes). Flights, transfers and optional tours are not included but can be arranged by eWaterways.

NASA predicts record Northern Lights activity for winter 2011/12

Is seeing the Northern Lights high on your must-do list? Well – this winter could be the year to go to maximise the chance of seeing them. NASA predicts that this winter will see the strongest Northern Lights activity in 50 years and what better place to see them than from a Hurtigruten ship where they are set against the dark night sky, away from artificial light.

The Northern Lights have increased in intensity since 2007, and will be at their peak in 2012. The Solar Maximum, the period with the greatest solar activity, peaks around every 11 to 12 years. According to NASA, 2012 is the year that we will once again witness the Solar Maximum, and it will be stronger than at any time in the last 50 years.

The Northern Lights are at their most active in the late autumn and they occur most frequently and at their brightest in a belt of some 2,500 kilometres from the magnetic pole. Much of the Norwegian coast lies in an area with the greatest Northern Lights activity, especially the high Arctic above the Arctic Circle.

A six-day Voyage North departing daily between 1 November – 31 December 2011 sails from Bergen to Kirkenes with the chance to add a range of excursions such as a visit to North Cape, snowmobiling or dog sledging. Prices start from £625 per person including six night’s half board on the ship and no single supplements. Flight packages including transfers are available from £495 based on London departures.
