Celebrated Polar Explorer, Tim Jarvis Joins Intrepid Arctic Trip

Intrepid Travel is offering adventure-seekers the opportunity to accompany prolific polar explorer and environmental scientist, Tim Jarvis on an extended ice-walk* while exploring the incredible wildlife and wilderness of the Arctic.

Jarvis is one of the world's leading explorers and holds records for the fastest unsupported journey to the South Pole, and longest unsupported journey in Antarctica. He recently returned from Antarctica where he was the first man to successfully repeat Shackleton's famous 'double' - crossing the Southern Ocean and scaling two mountain ranges to cross South Georgia, using only a replica lifeboat and authentic equipment.
On the Spitsbergen Explorer voyage escorted by Tim Jarvis, travellers will join their host for a welcome dinner and drinks reception in Longbearyen, the capital of the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago, where they will stay overnight before embarking on an 11-day voyage. The group will enjoy private Zodiac convoys with the intrepid explorer, daily talks and presentations, and - subject to weather and polar bear activity - an extended ice-walk.

"I can't think of anyone better to have beside you on a venture into the Polar extremes than the legendary explorer, Tim Jarvis," said Intrepid Travel's Managing Director, James Thornton. "His infectious enthusiasm for environmental sustainability has literally seen him go to the ends of the earth to highlight the issues our planet is facing, and his passion and experience will give travellers a truly unique insight into this spectacular region."

As well as almost guaranteed polar bear sightings, travellers are likely to see an abundance of wildlife including walruses, puffins and whales. They will experience a surprising variety of landscapes, from stunning fjords to polar deserts and towering glaciers, and for those who want to get up close to the action there are options for snowshoeing and sea-kayaking to more isolated pockets of Spitsbergen.

The voyage takes place in June 2014 aboard the comfortable Sea Spirit, which in keeping with Intrepid's commitment to responsible travel uses a clean burning fuel with low emissions, conforms to regulations on disposal of waste at sea, serves only sustainable seafood on board, uses only eco-friendly laundry chemicals, and provides passengers with complimentary re-usable water bottles and Fair Trade refreshments.

Prices for joining the group led by Jarvis start from £3,918pp for a triple cabin or £5,158pp for a main deck twin cabin, including all meals on board and refreshments. Until 30 September 2013, Intrepid is offering a discount on superior and deluxe suites of up to 20%, with prices for both starting from £5,679pp.
