Sardinian Mural

As you all know I love the village murals scattered all over Sardinia. In this one the artist has used the young men as models and included the village church, but look how they have painted some of the frame in and left their brushes in a tin as well. 

Bosa, Sardinia

Welcome to Bosa. Adventure cruise ships doing circumnavigations of Sicily stop at Alghero and you can get an excursion going southwards along the winding, twisting coast road hugs the steep cliffs again giving you tantalizing sea views until you come to the town with its pastel coloured houses perched on the banks of the Temo Sardinia’s only navigable river. Still very much isolated from tourism Bosa is a sleepy little town famous for its golden Malvasia wine.

But it’s the colours that draw me back to Bosa. This small town with its houses painted in pastel shades of yellows, blues and greens is ringed by mountains and sea and thus is virtually untouched by tourism development. It still has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere where you can experience the slow rhythm of Sardinian life as you explore its ancient streets.

Welcome to Sardinia again  and another of those fabulous murals in Tinnura. I really like how the artist has painted not only half a frame in the bottom right hand corner but also the paint bucket with brushes in. Have a great day now.

Pizzeria il Grifone

Birdwatching in Sardinia is becoming increasingly popular with British birders. If for northing else because of the abundance of species not able to be seen in this country and the amazing ease with which you can find them.

Bosa is only 40 minutes for the airport at Algerho but it is well worth going to as Sardinia two remaining colonies of Griffon vultures are found here. You can travel to Bosa by car, from Alghero and you have two choices of road. The inland route on the SP292 via Villanova Monteleone or the SP49 that hugs the coast. The former twists and turns up into the mountains and affords some incredible views back to Alghero. The lower more direct route, has the mountains to one side and a very long drop to the sea on the other. The road is well surfaced and there are lay bys all along the route where you can stop and enjoy the views and scan for species.

Actually finding the vulture colony is as easy as falling off a log as just outside Bosa on the coast road is a pizzeria conveniently called the Grifone, even more conveniently there is large layby just opposite where you can park up and scan the cliffs behind. We managed to get four birds soaring above as we pulled up. Our friends however got nearly into double figures when they took the high road back to Alghero behind the colony. Have a lovely day now.

This goldsmith is making the most equisite jewelery from the red coral that is found in the waters off Bosa, Sardinia. Fascinating to watch and beautiful to see the finished product. Have a good day now

Here's another one of those murals from Sardinia. I love theway the artist has painted the man and horse in black and white and put the local man in front. The icing on the cake is that artist has also painted in the man's shadow, a very clever touch. Have a great Wednesday.

Here's another one of those murals in Tinnura in Sardinia. I rather like this village as there are some thirty of these scattered around on the walls and each has some quirky element added n to them. I this case it's his boots which have been cemented in to the wall. Have a lovely day and a great weekend.

Cagliari, Sardinia

Up at 4 a.m. again. I don't know why this is happening! I just wish I could sleep in like babes does until 8! Skoda Yeti coming to day to review for the mag so I'm looking forward to that. Then of to Berwick to buy babes a bike.
Today's picture is of the arcade in the Via Roma, Cagliari, Sardinia. It's about half a mile long and used to be warehouses, now it's hotels, cafes, restaurants and up market shops. One good thing about getting up this early is that Doris gets extra long walks. The wheat in the top two fields has been harvested so we ca walk around the edge of those now and she can generally disturb pheasants and bunnies when they were relaxing after their morning feed.

Today's picture is one of those amazing murals in Sardinia. Sometime the whole village is covered in them. My favourite is the man waiting at the bus stop which I'll put on tomorrow.
