Sanctuary Retreats Completes First 10 night Nile Cruise

Sanctuary Retreats is delighted to announce the successful completion of the first long cruise down the Nile from Cairo to Aswan for 15 years on board the Sanctuary Sun Boat III, which departed Cairo on 19th August 2012 and finished in Aswan ten days later on 29th August.

For the past 15 years, cruise ships have been unable to sail from Cairo to Aswan. However this route has now been re-opened by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and with their support alongside the Egyptian Government and the Floating River Association, Sanctuary Retreats is the first company to have completed this spectacular journey offering an unprecedented selection of Egypt’s ancient wonders over 10 nights.

Dates for 10 night cruises in 2013 are 6th and 20th April on board Sanctuary Sun Boat III, 24th May and 2nd July on board Sanctuary M.S Sun Boat IV and 10th May and 10th September on board Sanctuary M.S Nile Adventurer. The journey between Cairo and Aswan is steeped in history, the banks of the river offering a vast array of ancient temples and tombs. Highlights from the newly opened stretch between Cairo and Luxor include Beni Hassan with its row of rock cut tombs adorned with paintings; Tell el-Amarna, the short-lived capital of pharaoh Akhenaten; the Red and White Monasteries with their insight into Coptic Egypt as well as Abydos Temple, dedicated to Osiris the God of the Underworld. The longer cruise enables guests on board to relax and enjoy leisurely river cruising as they soak up the scenery and gain a fascinating insight into local life alongside this majestic river.
